Using the open-source VLE Moodle, hosting of the Learning Management System (LMS) is just a small part of the involvment that WebsContent is having in making Academus Virtual School’s a success.

Academus is one of the first providers of ‘real school’ delivery delivered entirely via a virtual learning interface offering a range of UK National Curriculum courses, alternative provision, independent school home-learning aswell as A-level and BTEC VIth Form courses.

Lessons are delivered live via webinar (video conference software) and courses, student enrolment, achievement and attendance managed within an E-learning environment using Moodle. Hosting of the Learning Management System (LMS) is on WebsContent’s high performance scalable virtual private servers.

The potential market for fully accredited virtual schools is endless and certainly a company to keep an eye on.

We met with the client and proposed an externally hosted Moodle learning platform that would enable would enable access for students to their current third party content providers.

We agreed a scalable moodle hosting solution that would enable the server capacity to be increased as the schools usage of their new VLE grew.

We undertook some Moodle customisation to ensure the site was aesthetically pleasing and provided support on usability.

The new Moodle platform will initially be piloted with a whole year group and then rolled out school wide.

We met with the client and proposed an integrated Moodle learning platform and Mahara e-portfolio system would enable much of the collaboration, Distance learning and community involvement that was required.

We also provided an introductory Training session on using Moodle from the perspective of learner, teacher and administrator.

Merlin is the South West Grid’s provided platfrom to Schools in the South West. WebsContent have been working on shibboleth-enabling Moodle and developing customised plugin’s to map data between a Schools exisitng Moodle.
